The Barell Injury Diagnosis Matrix, Classification by Body Region and Nature of the Injury is a product of the International Collaborative Effort Injury Statistics. This classification scheme codes injury diagnoses into categories based on type and nature of injury. The CDC website has a link to SAS code that derives the Barell categories. Suning Cao, Iowa Center for Health Statistics modified the CDC SAS Code using Array statements to define 10 diagnosis fields in one data step. A translation table has also been developed for use in MS Access. To obtain a copy, e-mail Bettyh@ou.edu.
